Report from the Logical Olympiad Finals 2018
On Monday, 26th November 2018 at 7AM, the organizers of the LO Finals meet in the historical building of the Ball Games Room of Prague Castle to prepare the premises, refreshments, and a playing area.
At 9AM, the first competitors arrive. Getting in takes some time, as everyone has to go through a security check at the gate into the Castle area, and through another at the gate to the Royal Garden. At 10AM sharp, however, everyone is in place, and the finals are opened by the Vice President of Mensa CR, Tomas Blumenstein, and the President of Mensa CR, Martin Sedlacek. The competitors will have to deal with a written test, as well as projected tests and supplementary competitions. During breaks, the competitors can freshen up with soft drinks, snacks, and lunch, or play one of the games that have been prepared for them. Meanwhile, some of the team of organizers are evaluating the tests, others are attending to guests and media representatives, and yet others are preparing the refreshments. Once the official part is over, a presentation is held by Hana Halfarova from the Kellner Family Foundation, who speaks about the possibilities of study at Open Gate, and by Vaclav Brdek, the Vice Principal of the Mensa Grammar School, who gives a similar presentation aimed at informing gifted finalists about another option for their education.
At 3PM sharp, all results are summed up, and the award ceremony can begin. Like last year, no girls are among winners of any of the three categories. After the ceremony, we are only left with the mundane tasks of tidying up and packing everything away – and then we can start looking forward to the 12th year of the Logical Olympiad in 2019.
